You Can Do Extraordinary Things And Disability Shouldn't Not Be A Limitation.
Nastasia & Oksana embody charm, good mood and determination. On top of being sisters, the duo share a pretty unusual bound that brought them closer and changed their lives forever. One day of 2013, Oksana (22 years old) was victim of a rare spine accident. From a day to another, she became tetraplegic.
Three years later, as Oksana was finishing her rehabilitation, the sisters joined forces and founded the Association Kondor. They raise awareness around the challenges people with physical disabilities face in their daily life and sharing concrete information on how to solve them. They also developed a travel blog where they reference cool and accessible museums, shops, cafés or bars, illustrating their adventures with pictures and videos.
OKSANA: After my stroke, I felt lost with regards to finding general information about how to adapt to my new life with a wheelchair. Your relation to space becomes a challenge from going grocery shopping, to your house having to be re-adapted.
What I really missed is the feeling of surpassing myself physically
OKSANA: With our Association Kondor and our travel blog, we aim to help people with physical disabilities by providing concrete advice and to show that you can be mobile, happy and fulfilled whatever your condition; that your background doesn't count and extraordinary things can be done regardless.
NASTASIA: To trigger change. Sometimes people need to be shown that something is possible to believe in it and start acting. Oksana has always been very active and her new life frame has not stopped that. Sharing her experience on our blog and her social media helps changing people's perception towards disability and hopefully will raise awareness for more inclusion.
Shall We Get Personal?
NASTASIA: I was already a revolutionary child, questioning everything and giving my opinion on topics that I didn't perceive as fair. I would therefore encourage my young self to keep going haha.
OKSANA: I would say: enjoy your life as it is every single day because everything is going to change pretty drastically!
OKSANA: It's a good way to boost one's confidence. If you feel beautiful in an outfit you start the day with a special strength, a different aura.
NASTASIA: It can be an outside reflexion of one's personality.
NASTASIA: My baby!!
OKSANA: In another part of my life, I'd like to explore fashion photography, being able to create campaigns and universes from scratch.
And By The Way...
Indeed! It took me a while to consider getting back to sport. Before my accident I was dancing constantly. What I was missing is this feeling of surpassing myself physically. I started athletics and Crossfit to gain muscle mass on my upper body. I'm enjoying the speed and effort so much that I started training for competition... and why not going to as far as the Paralympic Games? Who knows!
What Is The Little Arrow Your Follow Everyday?
NASTASIA: Keep learning and doing things that interest me and have meaning. Even if it results in compromising on other aspects such as a bigger salary for instance.
OKSANA: I stay open to the idea that everything in my life can take a turn I hadn't planned and I try to enjoy it as it comes. Life is too short to be fought against. I also try to leave a positive impact behind me.
